Colour away the blues: a Nitasha Gaurav guest post

The monsoon works best when you’re sitting at home eating bhajias and drinking hot soup or tea. But most of us have to go out to work, or to run errands, so that isn’t usually an option. If you want to give the monsoon a swift kick in the... shins, do it with colour and a touch of style with these tips from Nitasha Gaurav, who used to be a much-loved friend and colleague in Femina and who now styles the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Asin, Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Bipasha Basu, Neha Dhupia, Kiran Rao, Shruti Haasan, Soha Ali Khan and Chitrangadha Singh for editorial shoots, commercials and appearances. She herself will never, ever tell you where something she has on is from (I’ve tried knocking her down and sitting on her to look at the labels), but she is very generous with advice.
This is her list of monsoon must-haves. Enjoy!

Candy Flex Wedge Welly

Colourful wellington boots
You get them with heels too now, so they’re just that much more fun to walk brazenly into puddles in.
Where to get them? Most local stores that get their stocks from Bangkok have them.

2
A waterproof tote
Great to throw your umbrella, change of clothes, and indoor shoes into...
Where to get it? Again, check your local Bangkok store.

3
Bright nail paint
Get yourself half a dozen bottles to liven up those tootsies. Think fuchsia, tangerine, postman red... The more adventurous among you can go for trendy shades of mint, lemon and lilac.
Where to get them? OPI and Colorbar have the most colourful selections.

4
Hair scrunchies, bands and other hair-control paraphernalia in a merry mix of hues
Where to get them? Your neighbourhood hair accessory guy will have plenty to choose from.

Nylon collection from Nike
5
Neon colours
This is the season to experiment - throw on a blouse or a scarf or even just a pair of shoes in a fluorescent shade to offset the grey.
Where to get them? Zara, Vero Moda

A little white dress or blouse
The rain is sexy; why shouldn’t you get a little naughty? Team it with nude coloured underwear for the best effect.
Where to get it? Zara, OVS, FabIndia, export-surplus stores

Collette Dinnigan for Marks
& Spencer

7
Fun bras
Those quirky colours and prints are just right for this season.
Where to get them? La Senza, Marks & Spencer, Vero Moda

Fire Mountain Gems

Colourful jools
Lock away your metal jewellery, especially if it isn’t precious. Have fun with colourful beads and baubles instead, at your neck and wrist. Anklets look particularly lovely with open sandals.
Where to get them? Scout the local stores; else there is always Accessorize, Toniq, Westside and Pantaloons.

9
Sexy swimmers
Sultry swimwear must be outed now, especially the bright itty-bitty piece. Nothing beats swimming in the rain.
Where to get it? FCUK, Marks & Spencer, Zara

ToyWatch Neon Plasteramic Collection
10
Chunky watches in mad colours
Don’t bother matching them with your outfit; contrasts make for great drama.
Where to get them? Fastrack, Toy Watches
